Anyone that knows me, knows Christmas is my favourite time of year. I love the food, family time, pretty lights and, of course, Christmas films – my favourite genre. This will be the first Christmas we’ve spent in our flat together so it’s just adding to the excitement. I’ve already ordered our fake tree (a real Norway Spruce just won’t last through December with Leni around) and now it’s onto the decorations. I feel like this is one of those real adult moments. My mum has a massive box of decorations and each year we would choose a colour theme; red and gold, purple and silver, but now, it’s all on me.
It’s hard not to get caught up in buying a miss match of amazing things. But because I live with Puppy Daddy (a Christmas-phobe) and Leni (a serial chewer) I can’t really turn our flat into Brighton’s answer to Santa’s grotto. That being said, Christmas candles, fairy lights and glass icicles I can (and will) buy with vigour. Already, I’ve found some amazing things in Home Sense and surprisingly, Paperchase. They have a quirky and sparkly selection of Christmas baubles and even mistletoe fairy lights which I think would look great draped over our fireplace. But as for a cohesive colour theme or a ‘look’ I’m lost.
So, to get some inspiration, I turn to the only adequate place; Pinterest. My feed is littered with trees bedecked in tonnes of decorations, festive wreaths and icing-dusted gingerbread houses. It’s enough to make you want to crack open a box of mince pies and find Spotify’s cheesiest Christmas playlist. Anyway, I thought I’d share 7 of the best Christmas decorating ideas because, when it comes to Christmas, there’s a selected breed of us that take it very seriously…
First, how cute is that sleepy dog? Second, this is what Christmas tree dreams are made of. I can’t even imagine how many decorations you’d need to bedeck that beautiful tree, or how many mince pies you’d have to consume to have the energy to hang all those baubles.
Even if you don’t have a marble fire place (we don’t) you could definitely try to re-create these ivy-wrapped Christmas letters on top of a shelf or cabinet. The little fairy lights really make this special.
The cosiness of this scene makes me want to buy loads of cable knit throws and grey tweed cushions. Oh, and white snow spray, always white snow spray…
I think if we had these pretty ginger bread Christmas decorations on our tree it would be bare by within the first week. But i love how all of these are so unique and perfectly decorated.
Love Scandi design? This is the Christmas room for you. I love how they’ve put a snowy white fur rug beneath the tree with a little mini reindeer decoration as if it’s playing in the snow.
Lights and hanging baubles? Match made in Christmas heaven.
I am seriously considering making these paper snowflakes. These would look great dangled at different levels on that plain wall you just don’t know what to do with! There’s no better time to do a craft project than at Christmas, but as an alternative I might buy these tissue paper pom poms from Paperchase.
I hope you liked our choice of the best Christmas decorating ideas. I’m planning on a post which documents our actual Christmas decorating experience, complete with Leni in a Christmas jumper, of course. Watch this space…
Until next time,
