You may have been to Brighton’s Black Lion Pub for the odd drink. Or to sample one of its delicious sharing platters. But you should go for a different reason; Lady Chastity’s Reserve, the latest adventure room to hit Brighton.
Nestled in the roof of The Black Lion, myself and some fellow blogger friends recently got to try out the Crystal-Maze style experience. After enjoying a quick drink, we were collected by our host for the evening, Gabrielle. Blue-haired, spectacle wearing and pipe smoking, Gabrielle led us up through the pub’s winding corridors into the attic. Draped with old curtains and dimly lit by lamps, we were each given a torch before our host recounted the tale of Lady Chastity’s famous aphrodisiac wine.
We had one hour to free the last, sacred bottle of wine from Lady Chastity’s locked room. And as the challenge began, Gabrielle turned a large sand timer signifying the start of the adventure. Inside, we listened to ghosts and tried to solve the spooky riddles set for us. It was dark and mysterious, filled with cobwebs and clues. Lucky for us, Gabrielle was able to offer three clues through the challenge.
We had so much fun. The time flew by and before we knew it the sand timer slipped away leaving us with just a few desperate minutes to solve the last excruciating puzzle. Luckily, we’d hedged our bets and saved our last clue from Gabrielle until the end. With it, we managed to unlock our prize; the treasured last bottle of Lady Chastity’s reserve.
It was a theatrical and mysterious experience which we all really enjoyed. Even after it was all over we couldn’t stop laughing about the evening. Especially as we had some really hilarious moments while trying to solve some of the clues. Even though at points we thought we’d never solve the clues, we got a great sense of achievement out of finally cracking the mystery. It would be brilliant to do with friends or as a team building experience for work. We can’t wait to try another one!
If you’re in the Brighton area and love a challenge, I’d definitely recommend it. To find out more or book head to Handmade Mysteries.
