I’m starting to feel sorry for our postman. In fact, anyone that comes to our door. Leni has taken to barking ferociously every time she hears our gate open, rushing down the stairs to defend her territory. And when I open the door, Leni tucked under one arm, it always makes me laugh to see the surprise on our guests faces. Their expressions set in a surprised ‘that little thing can make all that noise?’ kind of way.
But why do dogs bark? In Leni’s case I think it’s all about frightening intruders. In other instances, it can be to play or just grab your attention, the equivalent of ‘I’m here, look at me!’. It can also be down to genetics, for instance Terriers are more prone to barking, and a dog’s environment also has a huge part to play in whether it’s a serial barker. Being in a confined space or around loud noises can also give them a fright which can lead to barking. I have to admit, it’s slightly stressful trying to control Leni and struggling to open the door, but it’s also comforting to have a dog around, especially one as loyal as Leni.
She’s basically turned into our little fluffy guard dog. I like the security of having a dog around, even though she is a little fur ball. I think that’s why I found this video so amusing…
Although Leni’s not quite a big, beautiful mastiff, they’ve certainly got some similarities. I imagine she’d quite like the night in a hotel being pampered just as much as I would (maybe more). See she’s all bark, no bite. The new device this video relates to is a home monitoring system. There’s motion sensors and cameras that will monitor your home whilst your away, which can all be controlled via a smart phone. A bit like a guard dog – only without all the walking and feeding.
To celebrate the launch of this new device, Panasonic are offering dog owners and their VIP (very important pet, of course) a night in a hotel. To enter, simply tweet @PanasonicUK a picture of yourself with your VIP or comment on the #MyVIP Competition Post on the Panasonic UK Facebook page. You and your dog deserve a little treat once in a while…
Until next time,
