One thing I had to come to terms with when getting Leni was that my home wasn’t always going to be spotless. Granted, Bichon’s don’t shed (much), but they do love leaving toys strewn around the floor and I regularly come across remnants of leaves and bark that Leni brings in from outside. What’s a house proud puppy muma to do? In an attempt to keep the place clean, tidy and in line with my interior style, I’ve found a few things that walk the line between dog-friendly and style-friendly. Here’s the things house-proud dog owners need in their lives…
A Teepee dog bed
Forget the crate, this lovely little bed will give pups that homely closed-in feel of a cage, while totally going with your decor. Plus, they’re great for putting in the garden to give your dog a spot of comfortable shade. Who said tipis are just for trendy festival-goers?
This stripey number is from Pipolli.
If you’re dog loves wicker baskets (ahem, Leni I’m looking at you!) then stick to something a little less chew-worthy to store their toys. Ours are often chucked in one corner (I am a neat freak I promise) but this is the perfect way to scoop them all up out of the way so there’s no unnecessary trips or falls. No more standing on that rubber spiked ball – yay!
Cosy dog blanket
Make their special place extra comfortable with a stylish dog blanket. Leni’s a fan of sitting on our footstool, so naturally, I need a blanket that’s going to be super comfortable for her AND look half decent in our lounge. Who am I kidding – it’s all about what it looks like (sorry Leni).
(P.s. This one’s from Charley Chau – how cute is this little fella?!)
Food & treat storage
If you have a smaller kitchen and space is key, the last thing you want is a massive bag of unsightly dog food taking up your counter space. Instead, invest in some handy storage for your dog’s essentials. These ones have been made by The Sweetest Occasion, you can find the DIY tutorial here!
Stylish dog bed
If you’re looking for an ultra-cool dog bed – turn to Hound Worthy. Its simple, heritage inspired beds come in a range of neutral shades that will look divine no matter your interior colour scheme. I’m hankering after the pale pink set…I think Leni would look just too cute curled up on one of those!
I hope this helps you keep your home a little more under control! What are your tips for keeping things tidy when you’ve got fur (or actual) babies around?
Until next time,
